I’M STATE SENATOR MALLORY MCMORROW.

I first ran for office for the first time in the wake of the 2016 election - horrified by the hatred and fearmongering of Donald Trump, and seeing our own legislators in Lansing failing to do the right thing. With the help of thousands of residents just like you, in 2018 we took on a DeVos-funded Republican incumbent Senator in a Republican district - and won - running boldly on a platform of inclusion and progressive values.

In 2022, after a Republican colleague called me a “groomer” in a fundraising email, I knew that I — a straight, white, Christian, suburban mom — could no longer sit by and allow Republicans to advance their hollow, hateful scheme to target kids and the most vulnerable, while at the same time ignoring the very real issues and challenges facing Michiganders every day. So, I spoke out on the floor of the Michigan Senate, and a moment that could have been a flash in the pan became a movement, and together, thanks to an outpouring of support from across Michigan, we did something incredible this last election: we flipped the Michigan State Senate for the first time in 40 years.

With divided government in our nation’s capital, what’s clear now more than ever is that the most important office to Michiganders’ everyday lives isn't always in Washington. It’s in their state Capitol.

Our Democratic majority is not wasting any time getting to work delivering on our agenda for a Michigan that is inclusive and works for everyone.  We’ve passed dozens of bills–including these 3 landmark bills–that make Michigan a better place to live and work:

  • Gun safety legislation including ‘Red Flag’ laws, safe storage, and background checks for gun purchases in Michigan.

  • A repeal of the 1931 abortion ban to make reproductive freedom a right in Michigan

  • An expansion of the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to protect the LGBTQ+ community at work and in their communities.

Check out the priorities tab to learn more about the legislation I’ve introduced and my vision for how we can make progress together.
