ECONOMY AND COST OF LIVING

Minimum Wage

Mallory McMorrow supports raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $15 per hour and indexing it to inflation so wages keep pace with the cost of living.

In the Michigan State Senate, McMorrow helped pass legislation raising Michigan's minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2027 and tying it to inflation thereafter. She also voted to protect Michigan's earned paid sick leave benefits — the strongest in the Midwest.

McMorrow supports federal tax credits and subsidies for small and medium-sized businesses to help them adapt to a federal minimum wage increase without cutting jobs or hours.

Taxes

Mallory McMorrow supports cutting taxes for middle-class and working-class families while ensuring large corporations and the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share. Specifically, she supports:

  • Expanding the federal Earned Income Tax Credit and paying it monthly.

  • Restoring the expanded Child Tax Credit that existed under the American Rescue Plan.

  • Ending the carried interest tax loophole used by hedge funds.

  • Stopping tax incentives for corporations that outsource jobs, conduct stock buybacks while laying off workers, or stash profits offshore.

  • Simplifying tax filing and making IRS Direct File available to all Americans.

In Michigan, McMorrow expanded the state Earned Income Tax Credit fivefold, allowing eligible families to keep an additional $750 per year. She also eliminated the Snyder-era retirement tax on seniors, returning approximately $1,000 to 500,000 Michigan households.

Social Security and Medicare

Mallory McMorrow opposes any cuts to Social Security and Medicare. She has stated that Americans who paid into these programs must be guaranteed access to them upon retirement.

Mallory McMorrow believes we should fully fund Social Security and ensure it is solvent for decades to come by getting rid of the tax cap that allows a billionaire to stop paying into Social Security after just the first few days of the year, while a teacher, nurse, or firefighter pays in with every paycheck, all year round.

Mallory McMorrow supports allowing anyone the ability to opt into Medicare regardless of age, creating a federally-backed public health insurance option.

Small Business and Entrepreneurship

Mallory McMorrow supports expanding access to capital for small businesses, particularly through Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and community banks. She supports replicating the Michigan Innovation Fund — which she helped create as Chair of the Michigan Senate Economic and Community Development Committee — at the federal level to invest in early-stage, high-growth companies.

In Michigan, McMorrow led economic development reform to reduce reliance on large corporate tax breaks and increase investment in small businesses and entrepreneurs. She secured funding for the Revitalization and Placemaking Program and the Going PRO Talent Fund. She also helped permanently legalize social districts and cocktails-to-go to support local bars and restaurants.

Trade and Tariffs

Mallory McMorrow opposes Trump’s broad punitive tariffs that raise costs on everyday goods and damage relationships with U.S. allies.

She supports a strategic, fair trade policy designed to keep manufacturing jobs in Michigan and the United States, and expanding economic and trade relationships with businesses and entrepreneurs across the globe that bring jobs and investments here to Michigan.

Investing in Michigan

Mallory McMorrow led efforts to reform Michigan’s approach to economic development to rely less on large tax breaks and incentives for companies, invest more in small businesses, entrepreneurs, and give more local control to the state’s regions to support the industries and efforts that make sense for them.

HEALTHCARE

Public Option

Mallory McMorrow supports universal healthcare in the form of allowing anyone the ability to opt into Medicare regardless of age, creating a federally-backed public health insurance option. Her position is that access to guaranteed healthcare should not depend on a person's job, marital status, or income.

Affordable Care Act

McMorrow helped codify the Affordable Care Act on the state level to ensure coverage of dependents until the age of 26, prohibit being denied coverage based on pre-existing condition; and guarantee inclusion of all essential health benefits, including preventative care, mental health, and emergency care.

In Michigan, Mallory McMorrow also expanded access to care by requiring health insurance reimbursements for telehealth to be the same as for in-office visits and oral chemotherapy, and expanded dental screenings for kids in schools.

Prescription Drug Costs

Mallory McMorrow supports immediate and decisive federal action to lower prescription drug costs, including allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices, capping out-of-pocket expenses, and forcing drug companies to stop charging Americans more than they charge overseas. In Michigan, she passed legislation through the State Senate creating a state-level oversight board to bring down prescription drug prices.

Reproductive Healthcare and Abortion

Mallory McMorrow supports codifying the right to abortion, contraception, and the full scope of reproductive healthcare into federal law.

In Michigan, McMorrow helped repeal the state's 1931 abortion ban after Michigan voters codified the right to abortion in the state constitution. She supported the Reproductive Health Act, which removed medically unnecessary barriers to care, and backed legislation to safeguard reproductive health data and protect patients and providers.

Mental Health

Mallory McMorrow supports treating mental health at the same level as physical health under federal insurance requirements. She also supports expanding mental health crisis response programs.

Maternal Health

Mallory McMorrow supports federal funding to reduce maternal mortality, including expanded access to birthing centers and doulas, and increased postpartum mental health support.

McMorrow supports taking Michigan's Rx Kids program — which provides direct cash payments to new mothers and she helped expand — to the national level.

Medical Debt

In Michigan, Mallory McMorrow leveraged $4.5 million in the state budget to purchase and eliminate $450 million in medical debt for approximately 180,000 Michigan residents.

GOVERNMENT REFORM

Congressional Stock Trading

Mallory McMorrow supports banning Members of Congress from trading individual stocks. Her position is that elected officials should not profit personally from their positions.

Government Transparency

Mallory McMorrow supports increased transparency in government, including transparency requirements when taxpayer dollars are granted to private companies.

In Michigan, she passed legislation requiring financial disclosure from legislators and executive office officials for the first time in state history, and passed legislation through the Michigan Senate to open the legislature and executive branch to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

Mallory McMorrow leveraged the state Senate Oversight Committee to highlight the devastating impacts of the Trump administration's tariff and trade policy, the threats of DOGE and cybersecurity, and waning consumer confidence and the impact on the state's economy due to unrest at the federal level.

Regulatory Reform

Mallory McMorrow supports streamlining federal regulations that create unnecessary burdens on building new roads and housing, modernizing the power grid, and allowing businesses to grow and compete globally.

Rule of Law

Mallory McMorrow supports defending the rule of law and rejects efforts to ignore court rulings, dismantle checks and balances, or use government power for personal retaliation. Her position is that no individual — including the president, billionaires, or cabinet members — is above the law.

KIDS AND FAMILIES

Paid Family Leave

Mallory McMorrow supports establishing national paid family and medical leave. The United States is the only industrialized nation without guaranteed paid maternity leave.

Tax Credits and Benefits

Mallory McMorrow supports restoring the expanded Child Tax Credit that was made available through the American Rescue Plan, which cut child poverty by more than half during its implementation.

In Michigan, Mallory McMorrow cosponsored legislation to cut auto insurance rates by 10%. McMorrow eliminated the asset test for SNAP benefits, reducing red tape and paperwork for health department case workers and delivering food security to more Michiganders.

Childcare

Mallory McMorrow supports expanding access to quality, affordable childcare so that parents are not forced to choose between their careers and raising their children. Mallory McMorrow supports universal childcare, and universal access to affordable early childhood education.

Online Safety for Children

Mallory McMorrow supports stronger federal regulations on social media and large technology companies to address youth rates of anxiety and depression. Her position is that children's well-being must be prioritized over corporate profits.

Veterans and Servicemembers

Mallory McMorrow passed legislation out of the State Senate ensuring veterans can access the benefits they are entitled to without being charged excessive fees or being given bad advice, and protecting them from scammers seeking to take advantage of them.

She also expanded eligibility of the Michigan National Guard tuition assistance program to spouses and dependents.

Mallory McMorrow helped secure millions of dollars in the state budget that secured a new mission at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

LABOR AND WORKERS

Mallory McMorrow supports guaranteeing and protecting the right of workers to form and join a union. In Michigan, she helped make the state the first in over 50 years to repeal so-called "Right to Work" legislation. Mallory McMorrow supports the PRO Act  so every worker has the freedom to join a union and bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions without fear of retaliation.

Wages and Worker Protections

Mallory McMorrow supports eliminating worker misclassification and wage theft. In Michigan, she restored prevailing wage requirements on public projects and expanded unemployment benefits from a maximum of 20 weeks to up to 26 weeks, while increasing weekly payments for the first time in over two decades.

Mallory McMorrow also introduced legislation requiring employers to disclose their leave policy to all prospective workers in response to constituent stories of working moms having been discriminated against in the hiring process for inquiring about paid leave.

Non-Compete Agreements

Mallory McMorrow supports banning non-compete agreements at the federal level. Her position is that non-competes suppress wages and prevent workers from advancing their careers.

PUBLIC SAFETY AND GUNS

Gun Violence Prevention

Mallory McMorrow supports the following federal gun violence prevention measures:

  • Universal background checks for all firearm sales.

  • A federal assault weapons ban.

  • A federal red flag law (Extreme Risk Protection Orders) modeled on Michigan's law.

  • Safe storage requirements for firearms.

  • A ban on ghost guns — untraceable homemade or kit firearms.

  • Repeal of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) to allow the firearms industry to be held to the same liability standards as other industries.

In the Michigan State Senate, McMorrow helped pass the most sweeping gun violence prevention legislation in state history. The package included extreme risk protection orders, safe storage requirements, universal background checks, and closure of the domestic violence loophole that allowed convicted abusers to access firearms. She also passed legislation through the Michigan Senate banning ghost guns by requiring all firearms to be serialized and registered.

Police and First Responders

Mallory McMorrow supports increased federal funding for local public safety through partnerships with state and local governments to hire and train police officers, firefighters, and other first responders. In Michigan, she funded emergency alert systems, fire station upgrades, and community-based crisis response programs.

Legal Immigration Pathways

Mallory McMorrow supports expanding legal immigration pathways, including employment and family visas, to continue attracting talent to the United States.

ICE and Enforcement

Mallory McMorrow supports completely overhauling ICE, and firing everyone Trump hired and starting over. McMorrow's position is that federal immigration enforcement resources should be focused on violent criminals, not on law-abiding immigrants.

FOREIGN POLICY

NATO and Alliances

Mallory McMorrow supports strengthening NATO and maintaining strong U.S. alliances globally. She supports the United States standing firmly with its allies against authoritarian aggression, and to confront terrorism threatening the U.S. and our allies.

Russia and China

Mallory McMorrow supports standing up to Russian and Chinese aggression, including through alliance-strengthening and economic measures.

Iran

Mallory McMorrow strongly opposes the Trump administration's military action in Iran. Her position is that this represents a "war of choice" that has cost American lives, billions of taxpayer dollars, and weakened the United States' international standing. She opposes engaging the U.S. in another forever war in the Middle East without clear objectives or an achievable plan.

Israel and Palestine

Mallory McMorrow supports a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians, with a democratic Jewish state of Israel existing safely alongside a democratic Palestinian state.

Her specific positions include:

  • The humanitarian crisis in Gaza must be addressed, and the flow of food and medicine must be restored and maintained at maximum capacity.

  • Israel's bombings and incursions into Gaza and the West Bank jeopardize fragile peace efforts and must stop.

  • Hamas must disarm and demonstrate commitment to a peaceful and democratic Palestinian state.

Forever Wars

Mallory McMorrow opposes engaging the United States in forever wars without clear objectives.

CIVIL RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY

She supports establishing nationwide standards for:

  • In-person early voting.

  • Mandatory automatic voter registration.

  • Mandatory same-day voter registration.

  • Expanded access to absentee voting.

In Michigan, McMorrow implemented these reforms in line with the 2022 Proposal 2 ballot initiative. Michigan now has nine days of early voting, ballot tracking with curing opportunities, expanded ballot drop boxes (one per 15,000 voters), guaranteed paid postage on absentee ballots, permanent absentee voter registration, and pre-registration for 16-year-olds.

Michigan also enacted first-in-the-nation legislation under McMorrow to automatically register returning citizens to vote after they complete their criminal sentences. McMorrow also passed legislation prohibiting the open carry of firearms at polling places and vote-counting centers.

Civil Rights

Mallory McMorrow supports protecting and expanding civil rights, including for LGBTQ+ Americans. In Michigan, she helped expand the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to protect LGBTQ+ Michiganders from housing and employment discrimination, and implement the CROWN Act, preventing discrimination based on natural hairstyles. Mallory is not taking money from corporate PACs or AIPAC.

Religious Freedom and Antisemitism

Mallory McMorrow supports combating religious hate and rising antisemitism through educational programming, strengthened national hate crimes laws and enforcement, and security funding for houses of worship.

TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION

Artificial Intelligence

Mallory McMorrow supports ensuring models are tested by independent third parties before being deployed, ensuring our adversaries don’t get ahold of powerful chips, and smart regulatory frameworks to keep AI tools safe.

Mallory McMorrow’s position is that AI development should serve the American people, not billionaires. To that end, she supports a tax on companies use of AI to support investments in the social safety net and job training programs to protect American jobs against automation.

Research and Development

Mallory McMorrow supports increased federal investment in research and development at American research universities to drive innovation, increase patents, and grow the science, engineering, and technology workforce. She supports restoring funding the Trump administration cut for federal research programs that lead to breakthrough medicines and technologies.

As Chair of the Michigan Senate Economic and Community Development Committee, she helped establish the Michigan Innovation Fund — described as the state's boldest investment in entrepreneurs and innovators in more than two decades.

ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY

Climate Change

Mallory McMorrow supports federal action to address the climate crisis while growing the economy. Her approach includes investing in climate-resilient infrastructure, supporting clean energy manufacturing, and holding polluters accountable.

In Michigan, Mallory introduced 'polluter pay' legislation to hold bad actors and corporations accountable for egregious pollution of Michigan's water and air.

Clean Energy

Mallory McMorrow supports federal investment in clean energy manufacturing, environmental restoration, and climate-smart agriculture to create jobs while addressing climate change.

In Michigan, she helped pass the Clean Energy & Jobs Act, which requires 50% of Michigan's energy to come from renewable sources by 2030, expands rooftop solar, and sets an energy storage standard of 2,500 MW by 2030. She also helped create the first-in-the-nation Office of Worker and Community Economic Transition. Michigan now ranks sixth in the nation for clean energy jobs.

Great Lakes and Water

Mallory McMorrow supports protecting the Great Lakes through strengthened clean water protections, expanded funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, addressing invasive species including Asian carp, and banning toxic PFAS chemicals.

PFAS and Lead

Mallory McMorrow supports banning toxic PFAS chemicals at the federal level. She supports investments in lead pipe removal, testing, and filtered drinking water access in schools and childcare centers.

In Michigan, she passed "filter first" laws requiring filtered drinking water fountains in all schools and childcare centers, increased funding for lead service line removal, and passed legislation requiring lead poisoning screening for all minors.

Data Centers

Mallory McMorrow's position on data center development is that data center companies – not Michigan families – should pay for their own energy and grid upgrades. She supports requiring data center projects to pay their fair share in taxes to fund schools, roads, and communities, and hire local union labor,.

She believes Michigan can serve as the model for how to do data centers right, to best benefit communities, not just corporations.

HOUSING

Housing Affordability

Mallory McMorrow supports federal action to make housing more affordable, including expanding the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and providing federal incentives for mixed-income, "missing middle," and affordable housing developments.

Housing Supply

Mallory McMorrow supports increasing housing construction by removing unnecessary red tape, streamlining zoning processes, and reviving existing housing stock rather than demolishing it for higher-priced new builds. In Michigan, McMorrow passed legislation expanding redevelopment tools, land bank authorities, and mixed-use development support. She helped secure a $50 million per year investment in affordable housing through 2026.

She supported the establishment of universal free breakfast and lunch for all Michigan students, fully funded special education, and helped build the pipeline for Michigan educators by creating the MI Future Educator Stipend, which provides $9,600 to future teachers during their required teaching semester and the Michigan Future Educator Fellowship –– to give $10,000 a year to teaching students who committed to three years teaching in Michigan.
