In Detroit, McMorrow to Democrats: Stop Performing, Start Delivering
MICHIGAN – Today, Michigan Senate Majority Whip and candidate for U.S. Senate Mallory McMorrow hosted packed events at Motor City Java in Detroit and Starters Bar and Grille in Southfield. First over coffee, then over beer and cocktails, McMorrow took questions directly from voters, while advocating for a new Democratic Party and the need to rebuild trust in our democracy by delivering for people.
In Detroit, McMorrow directly addressed the need for new leadership in the Democratic Party.
"If you are telling me you are one of the 100 most powerful people in this country as a sitting US Senator, and you tell people you can't do anything — why would anybody vote for you?” McMorrow said. “The first question I got from a national reporter when I announced was, would you support Chuck Schumer for leader? And I said no. We need new leadership. We need leadership that gets it and is going to fight."
Nicole Denson, Southfield School Board Treasurer, introduced McMorrow in Southfield.
"I know the difference between people who perform and people who show up,” said Denson. “I witnessed Mallory show up personally — protests, events — and you've been intentional when we've connected, and that's why I'm here, and that matters.”
“In Southfield, in Black communities, we are not interested in being pandered to. We are not interested in being talked to,” Denson added. “We are not looking for anything other than real relationships, real building, and staying connected with us continuously."
“Every single one of us… is going to be here to tell our kids and our grandkids that yes, we were there and we were the ones who fought to make sure our country survives,” McMorrow said in Southfield. “So what are we going to do about it? That's the big question. Nicole said it: it's not enough just to perform. It's not enough just to say things that get applause. We've had enough of that. We got a president who treats this presidency like it's a reality TV show. So we need people who are strategic, who know how to fight, who know how to win, and who know how to deliver.”

“So it's not enough just to say we're going to fight him,” McMorrow continued. “It's not enough to go back to the way things were, because the way things were wasn't working for people. But here's what I know: Michigan is going to be the state that shows the rest of the country what it looks like when we take our country back.
“And the good thing is, we don't have to figure out how to do this – we've been doing this,” she added. “Michigan provides a window into our future, what it looks like when you know how to take on tough fights, when you know how to win, and when you know how to actually deliver in a way that people can see and feel in their lives every single day.”
