New Video: McMorrow on Building Michigan’s Future
MICHIGAN — Speaking to the quarterly meeting of the Michigan Pipe Trades in Frankenmuth, Michigan Senate Majority Whip and candidate for U.S. Senate Mallory McMorrow celebrated Michigan’s legacy of fighting, building and delivering; urged the Democratic Party to take a page from Michigan’s book; and spoke to how she would bring that spirit to Washington.
“We have delivered here in Michigan. As a contrast to what's happening in Washington, which is very little, Michigan Democrats, when we got power, we governed like we give a damn. And we focused on families and we focused on affordability, and we focused on jobs and we focused on education. We focused on the things that matter to people. And I believe it's time to show Washington how we can fight like Michigan, how we can win, how we can deliver, and how we can build our own future together.”
McMorrow spoke to her takeaways from meeting with union apprentices across the state –– many of whom are fed up with Washington politicians of both parties, and are looking for elected leaders to focus on fundamental issues like affordability, housing, and restoring trust with the people they serve.
“The way forward for this party, for all of us in this room, is to talk about and fight for – really fight for the things that impact 99% of us.” McMorrow said. “We all want safe communities. We all want jobs that are going to inspire us to get up every day and go work on them. We want to build something that we're proud of, something that's never been done before.”
“That is what we do here in Michigan. We make things, we build things, we imagine things that have never been built before, and then we go out there. We have all the talent. We have the workforce to do it. We work our asses off, and then we get it done.”
McMorrow, who started her career as a car designer and went on to be a Hot Wheels designer, spoke to her background in industrial design and her training in problem-solving and delivering.
“I know what that's like. I loved that experience as a designer of coming up with an idea, sketching it, drawing it out, building models with my hands. And then when I saw it on the shelves, and you could go buy that thing that I made –– that feels really damn good,”McMorrow continued. “And unless you've been in an industry where you make stuff, you don't know what that feeling is like.”
McMorrow’s campaign has visited 30+ counties and 60+ cities, hosting a brewery tour bringing thousands of Michiganders together over a beer at breweries from Ferndale to Flint to Grand Haven to Sault Ste. Marie.
