PRESS RELEASE

Mallory McMorrow Releases New Ad on First NFL Sunday of the Year

Today, on the first NFL Sunday of the year, Mallory McMorrow launched a new digital ad “Punting Responsibility.” The ad hones in on NFL Redzone adding commercials, rising prices at the grocery store, and exorbitant ticket fees making gameday less fun and more expensive for Michigan families and the culprits, national corporations and Donald Trump, who are to blame.

The ad will run on digital platforms across Michigan.

What people are saying:

Jen Psaki: “Very good”

Peter Laffin: “The most effective ad I've seen from a Democrat in the Trump era.”

Dan Pfeiffer: “This is a great spot because it does something that many are allergic to. It attaches a political argument to an ongoing cultural conversation in the country.”

Chris Cilizza: “This is a very smart ad”

Alex Jacquez: “RedZone populism is The Way”

Fmr. Rep. Bakari Sellers: “Brilliant ad”

Marc Caputo: “... the first Senate candidate to highlight the NFL RedZone ad flap in her own ad (and tie it to the broader issue of affordability)?”

Patrick Rodenbush: “Obviously timely and a good message… McMorrow comes off as someone who has actually spent a weekend afternoon watching football”

Traverse City City Commissioner Mitchell Treadwell: “Thanks for choosing a Northern Michigan beer--Short's Brewing pairs great with Lions football for a great Sunday!”

Read the script below:

Football is back, and seven hours of commercial free football… is not.

This is just the latest example of corporate greed ruining the things we love. Because it's not just commercials on TV, it’s also your grocery store run, where chicken wings are gonna cost you 19 bucks, or a bag of chips, five bucks. Even beer is getting more expensive.

It's a one-two punch: tariffs that are making everything more expensive, and corporations that are squeezing every last dime out of us.

And if at some point this season, you're headed to a game, you can expect to pay all kinds of fees on top of an already expensive ticket price.

We have a system that caters to billionaires and corporations over everyday people.

Chicken, chips, tickets, beer, everything's getting more expensive.

All the while Donald Trump is telling us that “prices are down at tremendous numbers,” while he's selling us out to the same corporations who are jacking up prices on the things that we love.

And look, on this campaign, we are talking about creating a new American Dream. A lot of times that's the big stuff: making sure you can afford to buy a house, you can afford to start a family, you can afford to save for retirement.

Sometimes it's just making sure that you can afford to take a break on Sundays without breaking the bank.
