Utility Workers Union of America Endorses Mallory McMorrow

McMorrow Secures First National Labor Endorsement in Michigan’s Senate Race

MICHIGAN — Today, Michigan Senate Majority Whip and candidate for U.S. Senate Mallory McMorrow received the endorsement of the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA), becoming the first campaign to receive the endorsement of a national union in the Michigan Senate race.

The Utility Workers Union of America represents 45,000 hard-working men and women across the country, including 9,000 workers in Michigan, who keep the power on, water flowing, and gas connected in homes and communities.

"My grandpa was a lineman. He had a high school education, served his country in the Army, and then spent his entire career with the same telephone company — because that job, and that union, gave him something real: a steady paycheck, benefits, and the dignity to take care of his family, including a son with disabilities. When storms hit, my dad told me, 'he hauled his ass out of bed' and climbed those poles while everyone else stayed safely inside. He worked hard his whole life, and his union made sure that work was worth something. He retired with enough security to spend his time with the people he loved most — including me. He passed away from cancer far too young, and I will be forever grateful that his union gave him the freedom to be present for his family while we still had him. So when the Utility Workers Union of America endorses this campaign, I don't take it lightly. I know firsthand what a union can mean to a family across generations. These workers are out there right now, in dangerous conditions, restoring power and water so the rest of us can get back to our lives. It is the honor of this campaign to have them with us, and I will fight every day to be worthy of their trust," said McMorrow.
