McMorrow Challenges Candidates to Debates in Michigan U.S. Senate Primary

MICHIGAN – Today, Michigan Senate Majority Whip and candidate for U.S. Senate, Mallory McMorrow, challenged her opponents to five televised debates in Michigan ahead of the August 4th primary. McMorrow’s criteria included participation from all primary candidates who successfully make the ballot, that each debate be televised in at least one major Michigan media market, and the first debate must occur before early voting begins on July 6th.

"Voters are tired of politics as usual — and tired of being talked at entirely through ads. That has to change. I'm calling on every candidate in this race to join me for five debates before the August primary, so Michiganders can hear from us directly, ask hard questions, and make an informed choice,” McMorrow said. “If you want Michigan's vote, you should be willing to earn it — in public, on the record, in front of the people you're asking to send you to Washington."

No debates have taken place yet in the race for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat, although all three candidates participated in the UAW candidate forum held in Washington, DC in February. In addition, McMorrow and Abdul El-Sayed have participated in three public U.S. Senate candidate forums hosted by Emgage, the Michigan Black Summit, and SAMOSA (South Asians of Michigan Organizing for Serious Action). Stevens declined all three opportunities.
